For the longest time our economy has been structured in a straight line where products and materials are made, used, and then thrown away. This model is referred to as a linear model of manufacturing.
In recent years the west midlands have adopted a new business model, by encouraging businesses to work in conjunction with one another to create a circular economy. This change has been driven by the need to reduce the impact on the environment, create new opportunities and jobs in resource recovery, remanufacture and pay-per-use platforms.
To drive the development of a new circular economy in the West Midlands, West Midlands Combined Authority have created the ‘West Midlands Circular Economy Routemap’ in collaboration with partners throughout the region. This Roadmap of sorts is an integral part of developing the West Midlands Circular economy by identifying three initial priority sectors, as well as a number of opportunities withing these sectors to build on pre-existing infrastructure already in place, where the region can accelerate the implementation of circular economy practises.
