I am the Chairman of MWW a leading European grower, packer and supplier of fresh produce.  The business was founded in 1963 and has been led by me since 1996.
The business plays a major role within the supply chain of fresh produce to the Food Retail Sector, the Food Service Sector, as well as the UK Government via the Schools Fruit and Vegetables Scheme.  In recent years, MWW has also expanded its growing scale by investing in partnerships with a number of non-European supply chain JV’s.
As an ongoing initiative, we continue to look at ways we can reduce our Carbon Footprint and remedy any impact our work may have on the environment.  Some of our recent projects have included:

  • Minimising the use of landfill. Effectively, all of our outputs are used or recycled.
  • Implementing solar investment in our main Birmingham site.
  • Maximise the usage of surplus food by finding alternative options for food that cannot go to our major retail customers.  More recently options include food donations to charitable companies such as Fareshare; last year we donated the equivalent of 1,215,976 meals.

For the future, our major work is to map the impact of our activities on the environment, including Co2 and putting in place measures to improve our environmental impacts.
I look forward to working with ProEnviro on the development of the Virtual Zero Carbon Hub and hope our joint initiative will result in MWW successfully implementing a leading Low Zero Carbon programme.
