FLOATING SOLAR FARMS

FLOATING SOLAR FARMS, WHAT THIS MEANS FOR CARBON EMISSIONS?

FLOATING SOLAR FARMS

Floating solar farms or “floatovoltaics” are photovoltaic solar power systems that float on reservoirs, dams, or any other body of water. Silicon panels have become cheaper and more effective meaning photovoltaic panels are more efficient as well as having a plethora of other benefits.

Using Floating solar farms could generate huge amounts of electricity without occupying valuable land, they are also cheaper to install. Also, research has shown that the power production of floating solar farms is greater, by up to 10%, due to the cooling effect of the water underneath.

Besides producing clean solar power, floating solar farms can help reduce the loss of water through evaporation as they limit air circulation and block sunlight from the surface of the water. Floating solar farms can prevent certain types of algae from growing, this will lower the cost of water treatment. Furthermore, the water beneath the floating solar farm helps keep the solar panels clean and minimizes energy waste.
