REA STRATEGY FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY AND CLEAN TECHNOLOGIES

The UK Association for Renewable Energy and Clean Technologies (REA) has unveiled an ambitious strategy to accelerate the UK's transition to net-zero.

The document, released in February 2021, comprises of several key interim targets including:

  • Circular Bioresources: By the end of 2023 all bio-waste is either separated and recycled at source or is collected separately and is not mixed with other types of waste.
  • Heat & Cooling: Renewables and clean technology solutions are the dominant form of heat by 2035.
  • Transport: By 2035, renewable fuels and electricity will be the major source of energy used in the transport sector.

REA's Strategy for Renewable Energy and Clean Technologies highlights that 200,000 new jobs could be created in the renewable energy and clean technology sector by 2035.  However, it is important to note that the REA state that in order for these targets to be met, a number of barriers will have to be removed.
